We offer trauma reduction treatment to clients who have survived overwhelming and devastating life events. We experience trauma when we survive an incident or a pattern of events that threaten our physical, psychological, and emotional sense of safety. Trauma usually involves intense fear and a sense of helplessness in the presence of real or perceived threat. This trauma affects one physically, emotionally, and psychologically, and the devastating effects will last a lifetime if untreated. 97% of sex addicts have experienced trauma of some kind and they are driven to numb the pain and shame caused by their trauma. In order for the sex addict to gain and maintain healthy recovery, the underlying trauma must be addressed. Unresolved trauma will make successful long-term relationships with spouse/partner, family, and friends difficult and problematic.
Types of Trauma
Some examples of the traumatic experiences we treat: neglect, verbal abuse, sexual violations, physical abuse, emotional abuse, parental enmeshment, witnessing violence, and disclosure of partner’s sexually addictive behavior.
