Assessment is Vital
The assessment process is a vital part of beginning treatment for sex addiction. In fact, all new clients must be assessed before treatment can begin, in order to tailor treatment to their needs. Each new client will need to schedule a 1 1/2- to 2-hour interview to assess the nature and scope of the problem. In this assessment we will discuss test results and gather a history of the sexual behavior, other addictions, primary relationship, family of origin, mental health, and general physical health. Once the assessment is completed, a diagnosis will be given and recommendations will be made for the appropriate level of treatment. In some cases, additional psychological testing may be needed before the diagnosis and recommendations can be made.
